Homemade Peanut Butter

My family LOVES peanut butter. I imagine we could eat it at ever meal and still crave it.

Peanut butter is pretty simple: peanuts, oil, salt. But I’m caught at a crossroads: manufactures add sugars or flavoring into my precious peanut butter, and nature peanut butter is expensive.

So, I’m in pursuit of a simple, cheap and easy peanut butter. Which lead me to try making it at home.

Homemade Peanut Butter

Makes 36ounces

  • 32 oz. unsalted peanuts
  • 4 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • Salt to taste

Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend ingredients until desired consistency, scraping down the sides often. (If your blender is weaker, divide ingredients in half and blend in smaller batches.) Add salt to taste.

Variations:

  • Add honey
  • Use peanut oil instead of coconut oil
  • Add spices like cinnamon
  • Add chocolate 🙂

What peanut butter will look like at different stages of blending.

The peanut butter tastes great!  It has the ‘stick to the top of your mouth’ taste that I love about peanut butter.

And the cost is very reasonable.

Homemade – $0.12 per ounce

Jif Peanut Butter – $0.14 per ounce

Smucker’s Organic – $0.28 per ounce

Making peanut butter takes a little time, but well worth it!
