Chocolate Syrup

My husband and kids LOVE my homemade chocolate syrup recipe.  They’ve begged me to make it quite a few times, and tonight we indulged!

I love the taste of my chocolate syrup better than the store bought ones.  Not only do I can I pronounce all the ingredient’s names, but I have everything needed to make the syrup in my cupboards!

The ingredients in Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup are High Fructose Corn Syrup; Corn Syrup; Water; Cocoa; Sugar; and contains 2% or less of: Potassium Sorbate; Salt; Mono- and Diglycerides; Xantan Gum; Polysorbate 60; Vanillin, Artificial Flavor

What a list of ingredients!

Here is my easy recipe for delicious chocolate syrup:

Chocolate Syrup

1 1/2 cups water

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 cup cocoa powder

1 dash salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine water, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt together in a saucepan over low heat; whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to simmer; about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and stir the vanilla into the sauce.  Serve warm or cold.  Once cooled, store in refrigerator.

For the kids bedtime snack tonight I gave them chocolate milk.  They loved it.  And I made myself a glass too 🙂
